AN
URBAN BOUTIQUE
EVENT SPACE.
The Cheney Place is a warehouse for those who can't wait to design their "urban meets vintage meets modern" event. Our building will woo you with its polished concrete and original hardwood floors, its frosted warehouse windows, and it's turn of the century freight elevator. The open format and crazy flexible space screams of possibility. And we just happen to host the area's largest collection of vintage furniture rentals onsite to make design a whole lot easier.
We love old buildings. And we love great design. But what we really love is pulling it all together to help you create an amazing event. Here's some of the events we've hosted recently as well as some shots of our space.

The staff was great to work with and consistently put my detail-oriented brain at ease. They responded quickly and had the place set up exactly how I imagined it (actually, better!).

If I could kiss those floors, I would.

You kept everything running so smoothly. I had no worries... totally not like me!!

YOUR EVENT IS SERVED.
We've got 20,000-ish square feet that we can slice and dice however you need for up to 350 people. Free onsite parking. Tables. Chairs. A sweet lounge styled with eclectic vintage furnishings. And oh so much more. Plus a huge warehouse stocked full of antique chandeliers and furniture ready to roll. For more information, click on one of the links below to dive in. Or, scratch that and contact us anytime. We'd love to give you the guided tour because social is way more fun.

WEDDINGS.
Elegance with texture. 1600 Monroe is an urban palette for the couple wanting to create. We share your itch to do something different. And we have the staff and furnishings to make that happen.

CORPORATE.
The space matters.
Four walls with tables and chairs works great. But we think four private walls around a huge well-styled room with history, right next to the city with private parking is better.

SMALL EVENTS.
We’re thinking wedding rehearsal dinners, small business luncheons, evening socials, and bridal showers. Anything where social with style is important. What are you thinking?
Read more →Forest Cheney invented "The Cheney Talking Machine" (a handcrank phonograph) in 1914 because he believed great design could make music sound better.
Well played, Sir. Well played. Design has a way like that.
THE TEAM WANTED TO
SAY 'HEY'.
We wanted to take this quick minute to jump out from behind the web page and "formally" introduce ourselves. Please let us know how we can help you think through your event at The Cheney Place. If you're not sure who you need to contact, please use the form at the bottom of this page and we'll be sure the right person follows up. It's nice to "meet" you!

BEN + MINDY PETERSON.
The Cheney Place, OwnersWe love each other. We’re head over heels about our three kids. And we have an uncanny crush on vintage and urban design.
We’ve shot weddings for half of our married life (STUDIO 6.23), curated a collection of vintage furniture that we rent to events throughout Michigan (Fancy Fray). And now, we get to host amazing events. Right here. In the space that we love.

I’m a lover of laughter and people and I get way too excited about a good cup of tea. I have an unquenchable thirst to travel, to experience and to explore. I love love and moments and experiences that fill your soul and give you life.
That’s what I’ve learned about The Cheney Place, it gives life; to it’s staff, to our clients and to just about everyone that walks through our doors. I’m humbled to be the one who puts together the details and team that makes your event reality!

I love The Cheney Place so much I moved right down the street. Just kidding… but I’m actually kind of serious. The Cheney Place is where it’s at. I fell in love years ago during an internship that I never knew would turn into my career… but I’m overjoyed it did. It’s always been about the people for me… the team here + the clients we work with, it doesn’t get any better than this. I can’t wait to work with you to make your big day better. If you need anything at all, I can’t wait to help.

The first time I walked into The Cheney Place, I felt like a wide eyed giddy school girl… and I haven’t looked back since. I’m a GVSU alum who is always up for a cup of caramel joe, and talking with anyone, anywhere about dogs!
And I LOVE weddings. I’ve been known to shed a tear or two during a ceremony and to bust a move or two behind the scenes when the dance floor is rocking. I can’t wait to meet you and help with your event!
