When my wife, Mindy, decorated our basement, she started with finding one pillow. It set the palette and mood for every other piece in the space. Is this the right vase? What pictures should go on the wall? This rug or that? Every choice went back to what worked best with that one darn pillow. It goes without saying then that she obsessed on her quest finding that perfect pillow!
Mindy is upstairs at Cheney right now creating and taking pictures of a bunch of table designs using our dinnerware and plant collections. She’s also singing very loudly because she’s wearing her headphones and we can all hear her through the floors! 100% her first choice for each design is which linen she’s in love with at that moment. Which charger/plate, goblet and fork? Whatever works best with her perfect linen.
The cost is real …. BUT… $50 extra for the perfect linen changes everything and usually comes in less than trying to make the same bold statement in other ways. It’s also one of the first things your guests will see when they walk into your wedding reception making it an affordable first impression. It’s the chaser that makes everything else feel right.
For Mindy, everything starts with one pillow. One picture. The rug. Or one linen. And honestly, you may not need many more than that. Kill it on your head table (and maybe some family tables!) and then tie in the rest with a more balanced solid or texture. Sometimes less of the perfect thing makes it stand out even more!
